Waiting for the storm to stop

Heavy rain in a storm falling on stone floor outside a cafe

Sometimes it seems the storm will never stop. How do we know when to push through it and when to take shelter? I don't think we do. One day, full of energy, we'll take shelter for a while, but then push through the rain to get home. On another day, feeling overloaded, perhaps we'll take shelter and wait.

The analogy can be stretched too far, of course, but our capability to cope with the stresses and strains of life isn't constant. Perhaps then what we need is mercy.
